The official name of this organization is EDRO which shall be acronym of Elbon development and Relief Organization. EDRO is Community based Non-governmental development organization that was voluntarily formed. It operates on a not-for-profit basis with principles and philosophy aimed at effectively reaching its vision, mission and core values.
EDRO was formed in 2006 by a group of the intellectual who met to discuss the situation of the community and established EDRO so that it helps the needy in the communities in South Central Somalia who saw the need to improve local capacity civil societies with regard to responding to the many challenges facing the war torn Somali nation.  During the establishments of EDRO there were security concerns for international organization to work freely therefore to ensure transfer of skills and knowledge from international agencies to national actors, EDRO was born from that idea.
