Nutrition and Health
The overall objective of the Nutrition program is to reduce malnutrition related morbidity and mortality among the under-five children living In
South central Somalia.
Strategic directions:
- Actual nutritional intervention by treating under-five malnourished (both moderate and severe acute malnutrition)
- Mobilizing and sensitizing the community on the causes of malnutrition and its prevention
- Malnutrition intervention will be done as per the global malnutrition guidelines
- Doing further research and survey on basic and underlying causes of malnutrition in EDRO’s Coverage area
- Coming up with a locally available foods and strengthening it to treat malnutrition related illnesses (i.e. utilizing locally produced crops such as sorghum, beans, groundnuts and camel milk) and providing proper training on how to use for the caretakers of the malnourished child.
- MCHN to provide mothers with primary health care.
- Treatment cholera patients and train house hold on prevention of cholera.
- Managing cholera concentration centers during the epidemics.
- Sensitization of mothers on safe mother hood.
- Provision of capacity building trainings to community nutrition health workers (CNHW).
- Educating mothers on the importance of breast milk to the child’s health
- Provision of nutritional education materials to the beneficiaries e.g. leaflets with information regarding malnutrition and its causes printed in the local language.
